Charles Lekler about the unsuccessful start of the season: a year ago the situation for Ferrari was noticeably worse

29.04.2025
Lecler does not attach much importance to the unsuccessful start of the season. Pilot Ferrari noted that at the beginning of last season the team’s position looked noticeably worse than now. And at the same time, in the end, the team was able to recoup and until the last fought McLaren for victory in the Cup of Designers.
In this regard, Lekler is sure that despite the lack of speed and double disqualification at the Chinese Grand Prix, with the right approach, Ferrari will still have a chance to turn the situation and fight for the highest places.
If you return last season and remember how the first races passed, I think that then the situation in terms of the competitiveness of the car was noticeably worse in comparison with what we have now.
We then expected that Red Bull would dominate throughout the season. And at the beginning of the season, we, taking into account the capabilities of the car at that time, just tried to earn points in cases where it was possible. But we finished the season really fighting for the Cup of designers - and this noticeably exceeded our expectations at the start of the season.
Yes, we could not squeeze the maximum of the available capabilities in the first two Grand Prix. And this is disappointing. But this does not mean that we cannot recoup. We are aware that the season will be very long, and that moving forward, step by step, we can still make this season as a result for Ferrari amazing.
What happened in China, then making mistakes you learn on them. Especially if these mistakes are so expensive for you. It is clear that all teams, without exception, try to act at the limit of their capabilities, but the disqualification of two cars at once - it was very painful, and we definitely did not need it.
In the end, the start of the season is really very difficult. The first two Grand Prix turned out to be difficult, our speed does not yet correspond to expectations, and the loss of points has become a painful outcome. But I am sure that we will extract a lesson from what happened. And it is obvious that when something similar happens, you try to analyze everything and understand what exactly went wrong, what changes need to be made to the workflow, and so on, ”said Lekler.
