Canluigi Buffon dedicated a post to the anniversary of the Heisel tragedy. On 29 May 1985, a wall collapsed during the European Cup final between Juventus and Liverpool at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels. Thirty-nine fans, mostly Juventus fans, died and hundreds were injured.
Both clubs commemorate the victims every year, which continues today on the 40th anniversary of the tragedy.
40 years later, I find it difficult to find words to describe the inexplicable and unacceptable tragedy that happened on the Heisel.
An evening of sport and passion turned into a nightmare for 39 people. This is a blow to the heart for an entire generation, not just Juventus fans, and is still an open wound that we must never forget.
Today more than ever, I want to honor those who are no longer with us. My deepest thoughts go to the victims and their families, ” the ex-Juventus goalkeeper wrote on social networks.
